A metal band serenades the audience of elementary school students
On the Quebec metal group Obvurt’s website, the band’s name is described as a combination of “Obvert (to oppose) and Hurt (to hurt)” – a name that was created by band member Philippe Drouin because it “relates to his particular destiny “. Everything about the band’s sound – thumping drums, atonal riffs, their aesthetic long hair, black t-shirts, album covers in debt by Giger – suggests that Obvert is, indeed, the kind of band you think they are. are.
But they contain multitudes, as their recent whitened sun clearly shows. outdoor concert for a group of elementary school children in Quebec.
Obvurt posted their performance at Saint-Albert-Le-Grand Elementary School on YouTube. This is what you can expect in a lot of ways. The set kicks off with the organs of Dracula’s castle and singer / guitarist Drouin growling over infamous guitars and double kicks. But it also features a group of small children jumping to the sound of music in a school parking lot, and clapping in voices of excited little children between songs.
Consequence of sound written that the show took place when music teacher Druin was invited to celebrate the release of Obvurt’s debut album, The beginning, at the same time as the end of the school year in Saint-Albert-Le-Grand, where he teaches. Druin says he “wasn’t sure at first” about the idea, but that “the kids really enjoyed the performance, which was very inspiring for us.”
The students were also familiar with Druin’s incredible recovery from a car crash in 2016 – possibly the “peculiar twist of fate” that inspired the name Obvurt – which forced him to relearn the guitar as a left-handed player after injuries left him “unable to play right –delivered.
Either way, the concert makes it very clear that school-aged kids are crazy about Obvurt. If you’re looking for something to put on during a play date, their music is available. at Bandcamp.
