A major Hydro-Quebec power outage affected approximately 5,000 customers near Montreal

About 5,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were without electricity due to power outages on Saturday afternoon.

According to Map of current Hydro-Québec outages, most of the power outages were concentrated on the South Shore of Montreal in the regions surrounding Sainte-Julie and Boucherville.

The two major blackouts began at 11:33 am and 11:51 am.

In both cases, Hydro-Quebec said crews were working on the problem and service would be restored around 2:30 p.m. or 2:45 p.m., depending on the region.

Although the cause of the outages is not known, it should be noted that 20 Quebec sectors are currently under Environment Canada weather alerts due to precipitation, some areas expect 50 to 70 millimeters of rain and wind gusts of up to 80 km / h this weekend.

Areas affected by power outages are not included. However, Environment Canada claimed rainy weather with a risk of thunderstorms in these areas.

To Montreal, Environment Canada predicted about 30 millimeters of rain with wind gusts up to 60 km / h for October 16.

At around 1:15 p.m., an update from Hydro-Quebec showed that some of the power outages had been resolved, bringing the number of 4,000 customers without electricity in the Montreal area closer.
